Allergy
& Sinusitis
Sinus diseases
and particularly chronic sinus infections are a part
of life in Louisville and the entire Ohio Valley. Yet,
troublesome as they are, appropriate medical, surgical
and allergy management of nasal and sinus diseases can
provide significant relief from these symptoms. The
physicians of Louisville ENT Associates are well-trained
in the medical management of sinus and allergy problems
and our first goal is always to make the best use of
available medical treatments. Because of our specialty
education, we can also provide allergy testing and allergy
shots to those patients who need additional relief.
Finally, we also offer the latest in techniques in nasal
and sinus surgery including image-guided endoscopic
surgery of the paranasal sinuses for those patients
whose symptoms are most resistant to treatment.
Sinus
surgery provides very high cure rates in spite of the
fact that the patients who undergo sinus surgery have
usually failed many other treatment modalities.
Surgery
on the sinuses can be done very safely, but as in all
surgery risks are possible. Risks of sinus surgery can
include in rare cases leakage of CSF (cerebrospinal
fluid) through small cracks in the plate of bone separating
the nose and the brain, and can include eye damage from
cracks in the plate of bone separating the nose and
eye. In fact, the Latin name for this plate of bone
is the Lamina Papyracea, which means "paper thin
bone"! Obviously, it is of paramount importance
to be safe in this operation.
This
is why we use the Instatrak image guided system on our
sinus surgeries. By using this system, we provide the
safest surgery possible. The Instatrak is a system that
gives us real time information as to the location of
the surgical instruments in the nose. Combined with
the surgeon's knowledge of sinus anatomy, it gives us
two rather than one layers of protection against complication.
It allows for more confidence in doing a more compete
cleaning of the sinuses, and subsequently better post
surgical results. Safety and efficacy are the best reasons
for use of the Instatrak.
Don't
continue to suffer needlessly from headaches, nasal
drainage, sinus infections and sinus congestion! Contact
